YOUTH

Netball / Youth

Our Youth Netball squad comprises of the following age grades:

U14 (Yr-9) to U18 (Yr-13)

WHAT WE PROVIDE AND FOCUS ON

Youth focus on fun and meeting new friends but now we start to refine skills and introduce new, advanced levels to prepare players for the adult game. Developing a more in-depth game understanding, and increasing knowledge of the specific positions and their roles, players will start to take responsibility for their contribution to the team. A longer training time of 90 mins allows the introduction of strength and conditioning work that helps build stamina and prevent injuries.
The entire age group merges (U14 -U18 are combined), and are selected into training squads, each squad based on similar ability. Each session is designed to enable the individual to perform to their best and make significant progress whilst working with similar abilities in their group. Within this group we provide a pathway from Youth Comp, to Youth High Performance Programme, to Senior squad.
Alongside regular training, we also have fixtures, competitions, tournaments, masterclasses and special events. We also have teams entered into the local leagues, which compete on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays depending on the Division.

By the time our players reach the Youth age group they are no longer split into age groups but combined into training squad teams based on their progression, development, experience and abilities.  Formal Trials are held for training squads and league teams towards the end of the season and in our summer training term (May and June). However players are constantly assessed so there may be movement across squads throughout the season.

Depending on numbers there are two squads per coach, but they may also have an additional coach, a coaching assistant or time with a masterclass coach for specialised training. Training Squads compete in their team in leagues.

Entry to Youth teams is by trial selection and invitation only due to the large numbers, and provision of coaching.

YOUTH COMP

Split into training squads of up to 12 player the focus is on game strategy, more in-depth learning of positions and technique.   The squads are ranked by ability which is done at the pre-season trials in May and June.  Training on Saturdays includes strength and movement training crucial for injury prevention, and skills and drills focus on improving the players performance in matches.  The squads play together in the league matches during the week so attendance at training is crucial to build a cohesive playing team.

YOUTH HIGH PERFORMANCE PROGRAMME

Youth HPP is split into training squads of up to 12 players. Youth HPP players compete in the higher league divisions, often against ladies teams so focus is on improving game strategy, fitness and technique, with 2 weekly training sessions.   Youth HPP focuses on training players to an elite standard to progress to more competitive netball including the national UAE teams.

Players are invited to trial for league teams which play against other clubs and independent teams for various league providers (eg Active Netball and Pro-physique Leagues).  Formal Trials are held for league teams towards the end of the season and in our summer training term (May and June).

Leagues run throughout the season with differing start dates and durations, we select leagues based on availability of teams/players, coaches, and parent managers and the standard of play.

Youth Comp players generally play matches on Thursday evenings against other youth players, and are ranked in divisions throughout the season based on games points.

Youth High Performance Programme players play on Tuesday  evenings and may play against youth or ladies (seniors) teams depending on where they are ranked in the divisions.
